What are the opening hours?

ARTIS is open every day, including on public holidays.

ARTIS Zoo is open from 9:00 to 18:00. from 1 March to 31 October. From 1 November to 28 February, we close an hour earlier at 17:00

ARTIS-Micropia is open daily from 10:00 to 17:00.

ARTIS-Groote Museum is open daily from 10:00 to 17:00, and on Thursday evenings until 22:00.

Where can I find out what there is to do at ARTIS?

Is it possible to visit the Planetarium and Aquarium too?

The ARTIS Aquarium is closed for an extended period due to renovations. You can visit the Planetarium with an ARTIS Zoo ticket. For up-to-date information about the shows, check the daily schedule. 

What animals do you have?

ARTIS loves all things great and small, from the tiniest microbes and insects to the largest predators, such as the jaguar. For a current overview of the animals, please take a look at the map.

Tickets and prices

What are the prices and discounts?

Through the link below, you’ll find all the information about ticket prices and discounts for ARTIS Zoo, ARTIS-Groote Museum, and ARTIS-Micropia.

Purchase your ticket for ARTIS Zoo online and receive a €3 discount. Do you have a Museum Pass, VriendenLoterij VIP card, or CJP? Then you can buy tickets at a discount. Students, schools, and care centers are also eligible for a reduced rate at ARTIS.

Can I reschedule or cancel my tickets?

It is not possible to receive a refund for an ARTIS Zoo, ARTIS-Micropia or ARTIS-Groote Museum ticket that you have purchased. However, you may reschedule your ticket once to a new date within one year of the purchase date. To do so, please contact the public service department on +31 (0)20 5233 670.

I am unable to purchase a ticket online. What should I do?

Please feel free to contact the visitor service department. You can also buy tickets at the ARTIS Zoo and museums ticket office. Please note, however, that tickets for ARTIS Zoo cost an extra €3 at the ticket office. There is no difference in price for the museums. 

Are there any combination tickets available and how can I buy them?

If you plan to visit more than one location on the same day, you can take advantage of a special combination rate. You can also purchase these tickets online. First select ARTIS Zoo, ARTIS-Micropia, or ARTIS-Groote Museum. Then add the tickets for the other locations you wish to visit. You can also do this at the ticket office on the day you visit. 

Is it compulsory to make reservations?

It is no longer compulsory to make reservations for your visit to ARTIS Zoo. You can buy a ticket through the website for a whole day, and can come in at any time between 9:00 am and 6:00 pm. Even if you already have another type of admission ticket, you need not make a reservation.

If you already have a ticket to one of the museums, or are visiting with a Museum Pass, then you do not need to reserve an additional time slot. All tickets purchased online are automatically allocated a time slot to manage the crowds as effectively as possible. 

Parking and accessibility

What is the address of ARTIS?

ARTIS Zoo is located at Plantage Kerklaan 38-40, 1018 CZ Amsterdam. 

You can find ARTIS-Micropia and ARTIS-Groote Museum on Artisplein, Plantage Kerklaan 36, 1018 CZ.

How do I get to ARTIS by public transport?

Tram: Tram 14 (Amsterdam Centraal – Javaplein) stops at the ARTIS stop, which is right around the corner from the Main Entrance. Trams 7 (Slotermeer – Azartplein) and 19 (Station Sloterdijk – Diemen Sniep) stop at Alexanderplein, around ten minutes by foot from the Main Entrance.

Metro: The closest Metro station is at Waterlooplein. Metros 51, 53 and 54 come to this station from Amsterdam Centraal. It takes about ten minutes to walk from the metro station to the Main Entrance.

Bus: Buses 22 and 43 come from Amsterdam Centraal to Kadijksplein, a ten-minute walk from the Main Entrance.

Can I park at ARTIS?

Yes, you can! The car park is past the Main Entrance (Plantage Kerklaan 40), and is a 150-metre walk away from the Main Entrance. It is not possible to reserve a parking spot. On busy days, the car park may be full, in which case you can go to Markenhoven car park or drive to a nearby.P+R location and travel to ARTIS from there by public transport.

How much does it cost to park at ARTIS?

Parking costs members €14.50, and non-members €17.00. You can obtain an all-day parking ticket at the ARTIS ticket office during opening hours. If you do not get an all-day parking ticket, you can pay the hourly rate  of €6.73 at the parking payment machine in the car park. 

Can I also come to ARTIS by boat?

Yes! From April to October, the Culture Ferry sails each Friday, Saturday and Sunday between 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. If you want to visit ARTIS Zoo, ARTIS-Groote Museum and ARTIS-Micropia, you can get on and off the boat at Entrepotdok or Plantage Muidergracht. Accessibility

Is it possible to bring an assistance dog or other assistance animal to the zoo?

You may not bring a dog or other types of pet. However, assistance dogs are welcome in ARTIS after being registered at the ticket office. They can be registered upon presentation of a dog identification card showing that the dog has been trained. The dog must also be identifiable as an assistance dog by means of a special harness or jacket.

Is ARTIS accessible for wheelchair users?

For the most part, the ARTIS grounds are accessible to wheelchair, walker and mobility scooter users. Only the entrance to the Japanese Garden is less accessible to wheelchairs. 

There are a limited number of wheelchairs available for loan from the ticket office, for a deposit of €0.50, €1.00, and €2. A limited number of wheelchairs can be booked in advance. You can do this no later than one day prior to your visit by calling +31 (0)20 5233 670.

I need to bring a companion, how does this work?

All visitors unable to visit ARTIS independently, for example due to mobility problems, can make use of the companion scheme and bring a companion with them free of charge. You do not need to book a ticket for your companion; you can simply pick it up at the ARTIS ticket office. 

Members can have a sticker added to their membership card at the ticket desk. This makes it immediately clear that access with a free companion is permitted.

Does ARTIS have disabled parking spaces?

ARTIS has six disabled parking spaces close to the car park entrance. The same parking rates apply to these as to the rest of the car park. There are also two free public disabled parking spaces on the street. 

Am I allowed to enter ARTIS with bicycles, scooters, and other means of transport?

Legally recognized aids, such as walking bikes, are allowed. Please register these at the ticket desk in advance and provide proof that it is a medical aid you require. Strollers and walking bikes/scooters for children up to 3 years old are also permitted.

Members can have a sticker added to their membership card at the ticket desk. This makes it immediately clear that access with a medical aid is permitted.

At what places can I eat at ARTIS?

At ARTIS, you’ll find various restaurants and cafés to enjoy delicious food and drinks, each with its own concept and offerings.

Can I bring my own food to ARTIS?

Yes, you can. Please note, however, that you may not feed the animals at ARTIS – they receive their own food. 

I have an allergy. Can this be taken into account?

Yes of course! If you have any questions, the staff will be happy to help you. Please note, however, that because the kitchens work with many products, there may be traces of allergens in the food. If you feel that this is too much of a risk, then we advise you to bring your own breakfast, snack or meal to the zoo with you. 

Can I reserve a table?

Unfortunately, it is not possible to reserve a table at the ARTIS catering venues. 

Can I order food in advance (for a group)?

Yes, there are package deals available for groups of eight to 40 people on weekdays. For more information see our package deals page.
