What does it sound like when plants compose music? Starting June 27, the hidden world of plants reveals itself at Artisplein. Discover the inner life of the plant Arabidopsis Thaliana through a digital experience. Scan the QR code on the square to admire the human-sized plants and their symphony.

A musical composition

By combining augmented reality with an ever-changing musical composition, this installation lets us see hidden processes from inside the plants. The music is linked to data collections from the Arabidopsis Thaliana plant, which are influenced by local data such as temperature and time of day. This allows the plant to create infinite musical possibilities, never sounding the same composition twice. Each plant translates into its own individual part, like a musician in an orchestra.

Connecting art and science

Arabidopsis Symphony aims to connect art with science and translate abstract data into something that can be experienced by everyone. What does it sound like when plants control the music we compose? How does the environment - and the changes in it - affect the growth processes of these plants? By making this data tangible and experienceable, Arabidopsis Symphony offers insight into the plant world.

Perspective from the plant

The Groote Museum focuses on the connection between humans, plants, animals and microbes. The Arabidopsis Symphony offers a perspective from a plant and helps experience the connection between all life on earth in a new way. There will be daily workshops at the museum to take you into the world of the Arabidopsis Symphony.
