Through the eyes of Humberto Tan
ARTIS invites for the first time a guest curator to create a new exhibition at ARTIS-Groote Museum. Humberto Tan was allowed to dive into ARTIS's private depot for this purpose. For the exhibition “Through the Eyes of,” Humberto combines objects from ARTIS' natural history collection with personal work.
Guest curator Humberto Tan
ARTIS invited Humberto to curate an exhibition because of his great enthusiasm for and connection to nature. He will show his perspective on South America and Suriname in the West Hall of the Groote Museum. Humberto Tan: “My focus is on the animals of South America, with a slight emphasis on Suriname. The Amazon rainforests in South America are the lungs of our existence, and Suriname, with 93% forestation, is the most forested country in the world.ˮ In the depot, Humberto's eye fell on morpho butterflies, the nine-banded belted animal and a spectacled caiman, among others. Humberto combines these animals with his photography of the continent, including a series of macaws.
Infectious amazement
In the museum's East Hall, Humberto gives his perspective on the Netherlands, because “even close to home you can find beautiful worlds full of magnificent nature,” he says. With this exhibition, ARTIS wants to give a place to Humberto's amazement and knowledge about nature, and ignite visitors with it.
