Things to do during the May half-term at ARTIS

From balancing eggs to eating poffertjes, from microscopic missions to underground adventures - there is plenty to discover in ARTIS this May half-term.

Soooo much to do

Go on an egg expedition, listen to extraordinary stories and see the world both under your feet and above your head. With many activities for little sleuths, curious doers and sharp thinkers, you'll get to know everything that lives, crawls, grows and blooms.

Eggs on wheels

During the May half-term, a special cargo bike in ARTIS is full of real eggs. From tiny to huge, from speckled to almost unrecognisable. Touch them, guess who they belong to and discover surprising stories from the ARTIS collection. Come see, feel and ask!

Exhibition: Unearthed

Amsterdam is growing and changing - above and below ground. In the Unearthed exhibition, you dive into the depths and discover what is hidden under the city: from roots and worms to cables and hard choices about space. What does the future of Amsterdam's soil look like? And what does that mean for you? A surprising look under the surface.

Build your own microscope

Explore the world of tiny life by building your own microscope. During this workshop, you will learn how to view microscopic organisms with a simple lens. Step into the shoes of researchers like Antoni van Leeuwenhoek and be amazed by the world of microbes.

Visit Kerbertterras and the renovated Duivenhuis

The historic Duivenhuis is open again - serving delicious, hot poffertjes in an atmospheric spot in the park. Combine your visit with a unique trip to the iconic Kerbertteras. This holiday only, you can still walk across the water via a pontoon to the former lion enclosure, before the renovation gets underway and the new residents - ring-tailed lemurs, red ruffed lemurs and the Madagascar radiated tortoise - take up residence.
