Practical information

Here you will find all the information you need for your school visit to ARTIS.

Your journey to ARTIS

During busy periods, such as school holidays, it is advisable to come by public transport or bike. The ARTIS parking lot and nearby garages tend to fill up quickly.

Visit ARTIS with public transportation

ARTIS is easily accessible by tram, metro, and bus. Tram 14 from Amsterdam Central Station stops at the ARTIS stop. Trams 7 and 19 stop at Alexanderplein, from where it’s about a 15-minute walk to the main entrance. The nearest metro station is Waterlooplein, and from there it’s a 10-minute walk to the main entrance.

Visit ARTIS by car or coach

ARTIS has its own parking lot, located past the main entrance, with a designated area for coaches. It’s a 150-meter walk from the parking lot to the main entrance.

Please note: the rules for coaches have changed as of January 1, 2024. Primary schools need a permit to drive directly to ARTIS. For other groups, the nearest drop-off points are Weesperstraat and Kattenburgerstraat. No permit is required for these stops.

Plan your visit

Don’t forget to reserve a start time online at least 1 week in advance. You can also book a lunch package for your visit. ARTIS offers a choice of two different packages.
